The Atlantic coast from Bordeaux to Biarritz

along the dunes and forrests

Itinerary

Route

Tour profile / level 1

Flat roads and paved bike paths

Day 1: Bordeaux

Individual arrival and optional visits to the Cité de Vin, Bassin des Lumières, etc. (can be booked at an additional cost)

Day 2: Bordeaux – Lacanau, approx. 54 km

After leaving Bordeaux, you follow a bike path through forests to the sea. This former railroad line has been redeveloped as a greenway and offers a varied landscape that soon takes you away from the metropolis. The stage destination is the seaside resort of Lacanau – take your time and stop at one of the many restaurants or cafés.

Day 3: Lacanau – Arcachon, approx. 53 km + boat

A pleasant stage of the La Vélodyssée cycle route between dunes and forest awaits you. Enjoy the view of the ocean on your way to the Cap Ferret peninsula. There, gourmets can taste the famous oysters from the Perles basin. A boat will then take you to Arcachon in comfort.

Day 4: Arcachon – Biscarosse, approx. 32 km

A short but worthwhile stage is on the program today. You will first cycle along the beaches of Arcachon and La Teste de Buch and then climb the Dune du Pilat, the highest shifting dune in Europe. Afterwards, you will continue on the Vélodyssée to the Landes forest and to Biscarosse.

Day 5: Biscarosse – Mimizan Plage, approx. 54 km

Today you can look forward to a bike tour through the Landes forest. The scent of the pine forest, the chirping of crickets and the shade of the pines guarantee a relaxing stopover, where you can enjoy a bite to eat at Lac de Parentis or at Etang d’Aureilhan, where various water sports activities are on offer.

Day 6: Mimizan Plage – Vieux Boucau/Messanges, approx. 63-68 km

This stage takes you along the coast of Les Landes on a completely flat route where you can stop at one of the many beaches. You will pass through the surfing villages of Contis Plage and Moliets et Maa, among others, which are ideal for a meal or a swim. You will spend the night in Vieux Boucau or Messanges.

Day 7: Vieux Boucau/Messanges – Biarritz, approx. 57-62 km

The last stage of your journey takes you from Les Landes to the Basque Country. The city of Bayonne is a must-see, where you can discover Basque culture by strolling through the narrow streets of the old town. Afterwards, continue to the magnificent city of Biarritz, where you can relax and enjoy the sights. We recommend leaving the bikes at the hotel and exploring Biarritz on foot.
