Berlin-Copenhagen 2022
This is a challenging tour with some days having 80kms of cycling. There are sections of the trial where you ride on a dirt/gravel trail which means you can't cycle as fast as on the asphalt trails. There aren't a lot of hills until you get into Denmark. We also encountered very strong headwinds in Denmark, which made the hills very difficult.
v An issue we had with the information provided was that there were very few directions for how to get to your hotels. The printed information provided in the Hotel List was written as though you were traveling from the north rather than from the south which we were doing, so it took us a lot of time to find our hotels. On one occasion the name of the hotel was different in the bound booklet than on the printed sheets. That particular hotel, Marlene's Bar, did not have reliable internet, which was an inconvenience. However, that hotel had VERY welcoming hosts; we ate dinner there and it was good;the breakfast was spectacular.
Finally, many of the distances were underestimated by as much as 5 to 8 kms. And, the travel time by train from Fakse Ladeplads was almost one hour not 30 minutes as described in the bound booklet.
We had communication issues when we had a bike that was defective. We weren't told that a replacement bike was being provided until we had already purchased and made the repair at a local cycle shop, which meant we didn't start out until after 10:30 on a long day. Then the next day when the issue persisted, we asked for a replacement bike, which didn't arrive until almost 10. If someone is replacing a bike, I think every effort should be made to provide it as early as possible.
