Valencia - Land of Contrasts tour:
A group of 5 friends participated in this self-guided tour, September 15-22.. Overall, we were very happy with the planning, organization, accommodations, towns visited and cost. Julia S, travel agent with RR was very good. The bikes were good quality. Helmets and locks supplied. We had beautiful blue skies and cycled though amazing towns full of history, fabulous countryside through orange, olive, lemon, fig and pomegranate groves as well as vineyards dripping in massive bunches of black grapes. We enjoyed the Spanish cuisine but restaurants in the smaller towns only open at 830pm so snacking along the way is a good idea. Breakfasts were generally excellent with the exception of our hotel in Cullera.
Changes i would recommend:
1. Ensure at least 2 GPS's are given to a group so that guests have the option of doing the shorter or longer rides
2. Book 2 nights in Xativa, a beautiful town and much more to see than in Ontinyent. Great market in the town on Friday morning.
3. The day trip (loop) from Ontinyent to Fontanars was not worth it - it was a very hot day and on arrival in Fontanars, no restaurant was open.
4. Level of difficulty: this trip is rated 2 / 5- I would definitely say it was a 3/5 for at least a few days. The easiest ride was on the last day from Cullera to Valencia. To make the trip more enjoyable, guests should be encouraged to have a reasonable level of fitness.
