4,8 11.06.2018 | Ulrike W. Baltic Sea Coast Bike Tour

Baltic Sea Coast 2018

The Baltic Coast is a beautiful area. Considering the distance to travel, to have an e-bike can be essential. Even some standard bikers had a hard time to keep up. The coast has endless white sanded beaches. The ride through a little too much forest in the beginning had sandy patches and one has to watch out. The first beach resorts was crowded, but had many small venues for fish, smoked or baked. Nice food if you like fish! Our guide helped with purchases, which was great due to the money conversion! Some in our group dared to go into the water/East Sea when we had a beach hour, only for a splash. I just waded, which felt nice: the sand whistled when walking. The villages or towns have few old and historic buildings, most of them are new and modern. We were lucky though and did see one Stork on his nest - and were able to stop for pictures! We did not see any fishing villages. One particular long pier was great. We went there with guide on the 3rd evening!! Just before sunset! Kolberg/ Kolobrzek it was!! Kolberg was an interesting city, we had a little time in the center on the following morning with the cathedral. On the next day we could see all the modern vacation homes from the top of the brick Light House. This Light House is not directly at the waters edge; The Sea is a distance away. The pick-nick that evening in the country hotel was lovely. They provided excellent typical food. The Hotels over all were very good. The food as well. The smaller hotels had a smaller buffet, the bigger name hotels a huge one, because we were not the only guests. But when we were the only guests, like where we had the pick-nick, it was lovely! The Freilicht Museum in Kluki was interesting. We arrive there just in time late afternoon. Unfortunately it is fly zone. Bug spray came in handy! The ?Wander Düne? in Leba was an interesting phenomenon. It was our free day so we could spend a bit more time. In the afternoon we explored the town. The harbor area was nice; otherwise it was full of local tourist because it was a holiday. After Leba we had a 2 hr. bus ride to the edge of the peninsula Hela. Hela has a great bike path. On the right side the flat inner ?Danziger Bucht? full of windsurfers or other wind sailors. The East Sea side we could not see, but the Scotch Broom and the Roses were blooming ? nice. The arrival at the tip in HEL was confusing. Our guide wound us through all the traffic and people. We had to catch the ferry to Gdynia. No time for coffee. The ship was crowded, but nice. In Gdynia we had a short bike ride to meet our bike-master Yarek. We said good-bye to him with hugs. He was a terrific man! Very helpful in bike matters and sometimes even with cookies and juice for a break!! Gdansk was our destination, a Jewel of city. We had our city tour, my friend and I in English. After that the final dinner was in an old restaurant. The food was simple: a nice piece of fish ? but we all tried the Danziger Goldwasser afterwards to conclude the journey! The hotel here NOVOTEL, excellent and just around the corner from the Green Bridge. Me and my friend stayed two extra days and saw a lot more in this magnificent city. It was a nice way to conclude this journey, which often even with an e-bike was strenuous.
