Tour profile/Level 2

Roads are mostly paved (30% unpaved). On day 2 there is the option of shortening the stage by train. Demanding tour with steep stretches that can be mastered with a certain level of fitness. Although the average daily distance is only around 45 km, it can still be very strenuous. For this reason, you should be in good physical condition for this tour.

Day 1: Pisa

Individual arrival. The city is famous all over the world for its magic Piazza dei Miracoli with the characteristic leaning tower, the bell tower of the city cathedral. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1987, besides a large number of monuments it also offers a friendly and lively atmosphere of a university city.

Day 2: Pisa – Casciana Terme, approx. 45 km

Following the River Arno, you reach Pontedera, with the Castellani winery and the Amedei chocolate factory. You cycle through olive groves and vineyards until you finally reach the Etruscan spa town of Casciana Terme, whose thermal baths were rediscovered by Matilde of Canossa in the 11th century.

Day 3: Casciana Terme – San Gimignano/Colle Val d’Elsa, approx. 50 - 70 km

The Via Francigena (Francigena Road) takes you through vineyards and rolling hills to San Gimignano, a hilltop medieval village. This UNESCO-listed walled village is famous for its many towers. Indulge in the local cuisine in the evening!

Day 4: San Gimignano – Siena, approx. 25 - 45 km

Cycling along the Via Francigena (Francigena Road), you can enjoy the view of Montemaggio and Monteriggioni, the place that Dante mentioned in his Divine Comedy. Siena, a magnificent medieval city, is not far away and shines with its old brick buildings and the crown of the Torre del Mangia city tower.

Day 5: Siena – Greve in Chianti, approx. 55 km

First you cycle to Castagnolli, where you can admire the Brolio Castle of the Ricasoli family, which today houses a fine wine cellar. You then reach Radda in Chianti, a classic wine village nestled in the green hills and surrounded by remains from the Etruscan era. Passing Panzano, you finally reach Greve in Chianti, where the famous Chianti Classico wine festival takes place every year in September. A good drop from the region will stimulate your senses.

Day 6: Greve in Chianti – Florence, approx. 35 km

Your last day of cycling takes you first to the small town of Mercatale, where you have the opportunity to get a taste of the local wine cellars, and then to Impruneta, famous for its terracotta art. Back on your saddle, Florence is waiting for you! The capital of Tuscany is known for its wealth of culture, architecture and art.
