Istria by Bike + Boat

from/to Porec with Morena

Itinerary

Route

Tour profile: level 2

The route mostly follows paved roads which are quiet if you avoid the holidays. The route does involve several relatively steep inclines. You should have a sound level of fitness. If you wish you can spend half or whole days on the ship and go swimming instead of cycling.

Day 1: Poreč – Novigrad – Umag, approx. 25 km

Individual arrival to Porec and embarkation between 11:00 and 12:00. Afterwards you will go to Novigrad, where you will start your first bike tour to Umag.–

Day 2: Excursion Portorož, Umag – Novigrad, approx. 60 km

After breakfast you will travel along the coast to Slovenia. After a lunch stop in Portorz, take the opportunity for a detour to nearby Piran. Through the hinterland it will take you back to Umag, where the ship is waiting for you for the crossing to Novigrad.

Day 3: Novigrad – Poreč – Vrsar, approx. 35 km

Today starts with a leisurely ride back to Porec. After a swim stop and lunch we cycle along the sea to Fortuna and continue towards Vrsar. The town is known as the refuge of the heartbreaker Casanova.

Day 4: Vrsar – Limfjord nature reserve – Rovinj, approx. 45 km

Today the journey takes you to Istria’s hinterland. Through the Kontija forest and the ruined town of Dvigrad you will cycle to the Limska Draga valley. Then you will reach the Limfjord Nature Reserve, whose fjord-like bay extends 10 km into the Istrian mainland. After the bike ride you will go by boat to Rovinj, which invites you to stroll with its picturesque old town.

Dag 5: Rovinj – Pula, approx. 40 km

Today you cycle through the Palud bird reserve to Pula, where the MS Morena is already waiting for you and whisks you away to a secluded bay for a swim. On a guided tour of the city back in Pula, you will explore its famous amphitheatre and other sights in the afternoon.

Day 6: Excursion to Cape Kamenjak Nature Park, Pula – Brijuni Islands, approx. 50 km

The day begins with a bike ride to the southernmost point of Istria - Cape Kamenjak with its impressive variety of flora and fauna. Back in Pula, the boat will take you to the Brijuni Islands, where you will take a one-hour round trip on the miniature train to marvel at the unique flora and fauna. Round off the day with a visit to the "Interactive Boathouse" museum and the "Tito on Brijuni" exhibition.–

Day 7: Brijuni Islands bike tour, Brijuni Islands – Poreč, approx. 15 km

Your last day of cycling will be a leisurely round trip through the national park on the island of Veliki Brijun, before returning by boat to the starting point of your journey. On the crossing there will be enough opportunities for small swimming stops. In the evening, round off your trip in one of Porec’s many restaurants.

Welcome on board of the MV MORENA !

    Facilities

The MS Morena was built in 2008. Wood is the determining raw material on the rather small ship, which thus already differs visually from the usually much larger steel ships, which are also on the Croatian coast. The resulting idyllic charm can also be found inside the Morena: the cabins and the salon are paneled with light wood and thus spread a cozy feel-good atmosphere.

    Cabins

On the lower deck there are 2 double cabins with French bed, 2 twin cabins with single beds, 2 triple cabins with French bed and 3rd bed above.

The main deck has 2 double cabins with single beds and 2 double cabins with French bed.

On the upper deck there are 2 double cabins with single beds, 2 double cabins with French bed and 2 triple cabins with French bed and 3rd bed above. The portholes or windows of the cabins can be opened. The cabin distribution is done on site.

We rent comfortable  bikes in a variety of frame sizes to our guests derailleur gears and free-wheel.

    Electric bikes | E-bikes | Pedelecs

With the Raleigh Dover Impulse 8 HS  (8-gear bike with free-wheel) every bike tour is a breeze! If you had few opportunities to cycle over the last weeks or if you are not sure concerning your fitness, but also with physical disabilities, every bike ride is a treat! The shiftable, low noise electric drive of our modern electric bike relieves you of some of the work and increases the pedal force up to 3 times ... So you can now book a bike tour together with cyclists who have different fitness levels. Acclivity can be handled easily.

All Ebikes are fitted with panniers.

Note: E-bikes are a great development, but should be - due to their driving characteristics (high weight + high speed) - booked only by very safe and experienced cyclists with a very good sense of balance. Not suitable are electric bikes for people who rarely ride a bicycle.
